Overview

A Puzzle card is turned over. All the Split cards are face up on the table. Two of them, placed side by side, make exactly the same shape as the Puzzle card — find them first.

No turns, no waiting. Everyone searches at once. The player with the most Puzzle cards at the end wins.

Components

  • 34 Puzzle cards
  • 20 Split cards
  • 1 rulebook

Setup

  1. Shuffle the Puzzle cards, put them face down and form a pile in the middle of the table.
  2. Place all the Split cards on the table face up, spread out so every card is visible.
  3. Nothing is dealt: all players play from the same shared cards.

How to play

SPLIT is a game of speed. Don't wait for your turn, or you'll miss out. As soon as a Puzzle card is turned over, everyone searches at the same time.

  1. Turn over the top Puzzle card. Any player can do this.
  2. Find the two Split cards that come together to make exactly the same shape as the Puzzle card.
  3. As soon as you think you've found the pair, point to both cards at once — one index finger on each.
  4. The answer is checked, then a new Puzzle card is turned over and play continues.

Turning the cards

free rotation

Split cards can be rotated in any direction to match the Puzzle card. A pair still counts even if the cards aren't lying the right way round on the table.

Example — you spot the right pair but one card is upside down on the table: that's fine, the combination counts.

Claiming a pair

2 cards, 1 index finger on each

To claim a pair, point to both cards at the same time, one index finger on each. That gesture settles who was first.

You got it right

first player takes the Puzzle card

If you chose the right pair, keep the Puzzle card in front of you. Turn over the two Split cards you used, flip a new Puzzle card and play continues.

You got it wrong

1 mistake = out until the next card

If you chose the wrong pair, sit out for the rest of that Puzzle card. Wait until the next one is turned over — then you're back in.

What if…?

no pair found, or no possible pair

In rare cases nobody finds the pair, or the right pair cannot be made with the available Split cards. Discard the Puzzle card, turn over a new one and continue.

End of the game

The game is over when there are no more Puzzle cards left to turn over.
Everyone counts their Puzzle cards: the player with the most wins.
If two players end up level, they share the victory.
